Our Drama Students and Thespians were at state last week with their one-act play The Little Princess. They achieved the highest rating of Superior! Kiersten Bartholomew received a Superior for her solo piece, and Kiersten and Robert Allen received a superior for their duet. Bravo to all of our students and director Tara Whitman! We are proud of you.
CONGRATULATIONS AHS MOCK TRIAL TEAM
Atlantic High School's Mock Trial team competed the 7th Circuit competition in late February, defeating Riverbend High School to move on to the state finals in Orlando. There, they competed in four different trials, competing against both of the eventual winners. Seniors Madison Campbell and Katherine Eason, Junior Devon Morris, and Sophomore Scott Kelley served as the plaintiff and defense counsel. Sophomore Garrett Hannon, Junior Matthew Burnette, Senior Heather Long, and Junior Jennifer Fyffe played the role of witnesses. The team was coached by Mr. Lewis Hartman, a Criminal Justice and AP Government instructor at Atlantic. All students on the team are members of their school's Academy of Law and Government, an esteemed CTE academy. The given case was regarding privacy while operating computers, which has been a hot-button topic as of late. Students were faced with a complicated, multi-faceted scenario on which to base their cases. When asked about the experience, Scott Kelley said, "It was a phenomenal time. Just engaging with other like-minded students from across the state is a terrific learning experience, and my team is already ready to come back next year."
Atlantic's Mock Trial team has competed at the state level for 16 years.
