ATLANTIC HIGH SCHOOL
DRESS CODE 2008-2009

A positive relationship exists between a student’s actions and accomplishments and the way he or she presents himself/herself. No clothing that is distracting to the educational atmosphere is permitted. In order to provide a safe and orderly environment, the following dress code will be strictly enforced on our campus from arrival until the final bell.
- Clothing, hats, handbags or other possessions displaying tobacco, alcohol or drugs (in slogan or illustration) are not permitted.
- Bedroom apparel such as lounge pants, pajamas and bedroom slippers are not permitted.
- Hats/head coverings are to be worn only in designated HAT ZONES. Hats/head coverings should not be worn in any area posted as a NO HAT ZONE or during assemblies or programs, unless part of a school-sponsored uniform.
- Clothing with obscene, profane or inappropriate statements or sexual overtones (in slogan or illustration) is not permitted.
- Mesh or transparent material should be worn only when a student is wearing appropriate undergarments.
- Bare midriffs, open back blouses/dresses, halter tops, tube tops or spaghetti straps may not be worn without a jacket. Sleeveless shirts or tank tops should have a strap that is at least 2 inches wide.
- Muscle shirts, tank tops and jerseys that expose the rib or chest area are not permitted unless a shirt is worn underneath.
- Chains, spiked/heavy jewelry and dog collars are not to be worn.
- Clothing should be properly fastened and pants should be worn at the waist. At no time should a student’s undergarments be exposed.
- Firm shoes and a shirt must be worn at all times.
- Excessively short shorts or skirts are not allowed. Extremely tight and/or revealing clothing is unacceptable.
The school administration reserves the right to be the final authority as to the appropriateness of dress. Students may be dismissed from school to correct a dress code violation. Disciplinary action will be taken for students who consistently violate the dress code.
