The AVID classes at Atlantic High School are in need of tutors on Tuesdays and Thursdays during 3rd and 4th periods from 9:45 – 11:45. Ideal candidates for tutoring are local college juniors or seniors or recent college graduates who will set a positive example as a role model. This is a paid opportunity of at least $9.29 per hour. No experience is necessary but tutors must have completed at least 48 semester hours of college credit and are expected to attend training and utilize the “AVID method of tutoring.” College students facilitate tutorials under direct supervision of the AVID elective teacher and are not expected to be able to answer every question.
If you know of any college students living in the area or if you have children of your own who fit this criterion and would be interested in a job, please have them complete an application. An interest questionnaire and further description of the program and duties are located at http://blackboard.volusia.k12.fl.us Click the Departments tab and then click on the AVID program under the Instructional Services column on the right.
Qualified substitute teachers and teachers willing to consistently (weekly) give up a planning period may also wish to apply. Pay will vary according to the substitute pay rate or according to the supplement agreement. College students are now eligible for reimbursement for drug screening and finger printing costs after securing employment as an AVID tutor and submitting verification of a minimum of 20 hours of AVID tutoring.
Please feel free to contact Melanie Dabbe 38177 for further information.
